What to expect

Accommodation in Cambutal runs the spectrum from basic surf camps and backpacker-style rooms to private rental houses. Most places are small and family-run, and many book up quickly during peak surf season. Air conditioning is not universal, and that's largely fine — the Pacific breeze and shaded hammocks do the work.

The village has no large hotels or branded chains. That's by nature, not oversight. Travelers who reach Cambutal are generally looking for something different from mainstream beach tourism.

• Surf camps and hostel-style guesthouses — the most common option, often with board rental and lessons on-site. Social, convenient, and affordable.
